I discovered the most beautiful coffee last week. A Colombian, Pink Bourbon Varietal toasted in Madrid.

The reason I paid over €10 for a packet of coffee has everything to do with my worldview.

The scent has beautiful notes of cherry, apricots, and berries. But, more importantly, it reminds me of my grandma’s kitchen, where the whole family would sit and have coffee together on Friday afternoons.

It’s clear that this is a quality product, but what’s really disappointing is that there is no story.

There are no clues about the history, scent, flavor, and the way I might experience it.

If you’re selling a product, or if you want to differentiate what you do, you must get better at telling your story.

  • How is this relevant to you?
  • What if you don’t even sell a physical product?

If you want your idea to succeed then you need to get better at telling people why it should matter to them.

If you want people to understand your difference then you need to tell them about it.

It’s absolutely possible to increase the value of your product or service at no extra cost by telling a better story.

Here are two examples of businesses doing just that:
- Koko Black Chocolate
- Glasshouse Fragrances

You experience this every single day, now it’s time to put it into practice.
